CURRENT ISSUES OF FIGHTING CYBERCRIME AT THE MODERN STAGE

Member of the All-Ukrainian Association of Scientists and Specialists in the Field of Operational and Investigative Activities, Candidate of Law, Associate Professor Artem Shelekhov took part in the international interdepartmental seminar "Current Issues in Combating Cybercrime at the Present Stage", which took place on April 20, 2017 at the Kyiv Research Institute of Forensic Expertise and was held jointly with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and the European Union Advisory Mission for Civilian Security Sector Reform in Ukraine (EUAM).

Leading specialists from higher educational institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, the National Police of Ukraine, the Security Service of Ukraine, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine, and forensic research institutes of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine were invited to participate in the event.

The seminar program included an overview of the current state of cybercrime, in particular, the situation in Ukraine, current problems and methods for solving them, analysis of malicious software, etc.

Among the speakers were representatives of Europol with a presentation of the organization's capabilities and the resources of the cyber laboratory, representatives of the OSCE with a presentation on supporting the cyber police of Ukraine, as well as a representative of the FBI at the US Embassy in Ukraine.

The main attention of the seminar speakers was paid to the transnational nature of cybercrime. Cybercrime in the so-called "virtual space" causes a number of negative consequences and exacerbates the situation with the protection of information contained in computer databases and computer systems. The problem is becoming increasingly important and has attracted the attention of an increasing number of criminologists from leading countries of the world since the widespread introduction of computer technology.

In conclusion, the seminar organizers expressed gratitude to the participants for their work and wished them effective use of the knowledge gained in the practical field of activity.
